Racing Bulls<\/a> boss Alan Permane has revealed that the team is close to announcing its line-up for the 2027 Formula 1 season amid uncertainty over Liam Lawson<\/a>\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

Following Sergio Perez\u2019s renewal with Cadillac, Racing Bulls is now the sole team yet to confirm either driver for next year, with only four races to go in the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

Racing Bulls close to making decision on 2027 line-up<\/p>\n

There are known to be three names in contention: incumbent pair Lawson and Arvid Lindblad, along with Nikola Tsolov, who lies second in the Formula 2 championship.<\/p>\n

Asked when news can be expected on Racing Bulls\u2019 plans for 2027, Permane, who has penned a new deal to remain in charge of Red Bull\u2019s satellite squad through 2031, replied: \u201cI\u2019m not going to give you a date. I\u2019m sure you\u2019re not surprised to hear that.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, Red Bull\u2019s had a very successful young driver programme, but I think if you guys are critical of it, maybe sometimes the drivers haven\u2019t been able to have enough time to settle, or maybe some snap decisions have been made.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to apply a little bit of science, and that takes some time. So we are looking at everything and studying, analysing, and time is on our side.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not in a rush to do anything, and I\u2019m very confident the right decision will be made. I realise it\u2019s frustrating for our drivers. I realise it\u2019s frustrating for everyone else. But we want to get it right, and we will get it right. And I\u2019m sure when we announce it in the coming weeks, everyone will be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

More on the speculation surrounding Liam Lawson\u2019s future<\/p>\n

There is still a plausible scenario that Lawson loses his place on the F1 grid despite having more than double the points (83 to 38) of rookie teammate Lindblad to date.<\/p>\n

Permane highlighted that while speed is a primary consideration, Racing Bulls\u2019 status as a developing ground for Red Bull\u2019s up-and-coming drivers also has to be regarded.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are getting close, as I\u2019ve been saying for a while,\u201d he reiterated.<\/p>\n

\u201cMain factors are, as always, pace and speed. That\u2019s what comes into it. That\u2019s the very first thing we look for.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we\u2019re not just a team that exists to just solely compete. We are here to bring young talent through. So we have to keep an eye on that.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that we just keep churning young talent through the car. We need to have maybe some experience as well to measure that talent against. So it\u2019s not an easy decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson conceded in the build-up to this weekend\u2019s Sao Paulo Grand Prix that the speculation surrounding his drive has overshadowed his recent strong run<\/a>, during which time he\u2019s accrued more points than Isack Hadjar in the senior Red Bull team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand and I get the frustration from everyone,\u201d Permane sympathised.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get the frustration from my drivers. However, they are both performing excellently, and so I don\u2019t know if that frustration is helping.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe they\u2019ll be even better when those decisions are made. I don\u2019t know. But like I said, I\u2019m not going to give you a date, but we\u2019re getting there, and it won\u2019t be long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Permane has not ruled out Tsolov being guaranteed a promotion to F1 for 2028, pitting Lawson and Lindblad against each other in a straight shootout next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think all solutions are possible,\u201d the ex-Alpine stalwart added.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to give you any clues on what we\u2019re going to do because honestly, we\u2019re almost there, but we\u2019re not finalised.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I don\u2019t want to say one thing or the other on that.\u201d<\/p>\n
