It’s available to those with Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) connections, which is also a requirement for accessing faster NBN speeds in September.

As an incentive to get people to sign up, Tangerine is selling its faster new plan at an introductory discount of $68.90 per month. That’s valid for the first six months; afterwards, the standard price sits at $88.90 each month.

Although slightly more expensive than Exetel’s recently revamped 500Mbps plan, which costs $80 per month, Tangerine’s plan is extremely competitive compared to the existing cheapest NBN plans.

With speedier internet plans on the horizon, the ACCC recently updated its industry guidance to ensure that telcos provide adequate advice about modems and routers. Older and slower networking gear likely won’t support the advertised speeds, so an upgrade might be required.

Alongside its new plan, Tangerine advises customers that a compatible Wi-Fi 6 modem is a requirement. The telco currently sells a NetComm CF40 Wi-Fi 6 modem for $49.90, which it says is up to the task.

NetComm’s website doesn’t list the modem’s exact wireless bandwidth specs, which makes it tricky to see precisely how much better it is than an equivalent Wi-Fi 5 device. It does have multiple 1Gbps Ethernet ports, so any wired connections should benefit from Tangerine’s 500Mbps speeds.

Of the increased internet speeds, Tangerine CEO Andrew Branson said the telco’s new plan was “just the beginning.”

“We’re working hard behind the scenes to prepare for the rollout of increased high-speed plan options in September, giving Australians greater choice and flexibility when it comes to their internet.”

GadgetGuy occasionally uses affiliate links and may receive a small commission from purchased products.

Aussie-based telco Tangerine has launched a new “Speedy Max” internet plan ahead of the NBN’s planned speed upgrade…

[18
64,63,237,105
0":"post-9669","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-internet","8":"tag-au","9":"tag-australia","10":"tag-internet","11":"tag-technology
["GET
