Perth locals will have a chance to shop for cheaper home appliances this week amid the cost-of-living crisis.<\/p>\n

Australian<\/a> auction house Lloyd\u2019s has announced a series of 11 auctions across the nation, offering $12 million worth of appliances starting at $1 each \u2014 with their Perth<\/a> auction launching yesterday.<\/p>\n

Ovens, dishwashers, and range hoods are among the items on offer to auction-goers, offered to attendees for a minimum of 80 per cent off retail price.<\/p>\n

One brand new DeLonghi oven retails for $3600 from a typical white goods store \u2014 the Perth auction offers the same oven new in packaging for only $47.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is brand new, completely unreserved, and starts at just $1 \u2014 so we\u2019re sure every appliance will sell,\u201d Lloyd\u2019s chief operations officer Lee Hames told PerthNow<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Homewares charity Good360 said the cost-of-living crisis meant many Australians have had to prioritise groceries and other bills over appliances and furniture for their homes during recent years.<\/p>\n

\u201cPoverty isn\u2019t always visible \u2014 you might walk into a home and see bare floors, no fridge, a mattress lying on the ground,\u201d the charity\u2019s founder Alison Covington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know people need more than a roof over their head to lead a dignified life, and research shows millions of people are now struggling to afford essentials such as bedding, appliances, cutlery and cooking utensils.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Hames said the motivation behind the auction was not just to offer affordable appliances for those struggling, but to reflect how the cost-of-living crisis has changed how Australians shop.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are seeing more families treat auctions as their first stop for white goods, which shows how shopping habits are shifting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are more value-driven, more digital in their habits, and far more comfortable buying big-ticket items through online auctions.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Anglicare\u2019s 2025 Cost of Living Index finding full-time minimum wage workers had just $33 left after paying for rent, food and transport, the auction offers Australians the chance to upgrade their home affordably.<\/p>\n
