Good news, fans of misanthropic espionage dramas \u2013 Slow Horses<\/a> is back. Again! The fastest-moving show on the box (five seasons in five years, almost unheard of in the streaming era) is returning to Apple TV+<\/a> for Season 5<\/a>, ready to bring fresh exploits of Jackson Lamb (a riotously grumpy Gary Oldman) and his department of MI5 fuck-ups in another twist-filled case. Based on Mick Herron\u2019s London Rules, this season puts Christopher Chung\u2019s sneering IT edgelord Roddy Ho front and centre \u2013 the biggest mystery of all being, how has he somehow found himself a girlfriend?<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were all just rubbing our hands,\u201d showrunner Will Smith tells Empire of where Herron\u2019s novels steer this season. \u201c\u2018Ho gets a girlfriend?!\u2019 Straight away, that\u2019s hilarious, but it\u2019s also a great mystery, because you know that\u2019s not real.\u201d While Lamb leads the Slough House crew, Slow Horses has always been a show that lets its ensemble cast shine \u2013 with Chung now getting to pay off years of build-up as one of the most brilliantly exasperating members of the team. \u201cChris was the least known [of the cast],\u201d says Smith. \u201cAnd then you put him in a room with Gary Oldman. It was a huge ask and he landed it\u2026 Ho could be a caricature. He could be too mean and nasty, but Chris makes him believable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course, Lamb will still feature prominently, ready to let off some steam (quite literally) at the most opportune moment. Though, his signature flatulence will be carefully deployed. \u201cIt\u2019s sometimes about knowing when to hold back,\u201d Smith explains. \u201cFor example, people think [Lamb] farts more than he does\u2026 In season 5, it\u2019s only one\u2026 A weaponised fart. A story-based fart.\u201d Ready to let rip?<\/p>\n
