Former grand prix champions Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez and Valtteri Bottas have been confirmed as the debut line-up for Formula 1’s new team, Cadillac.<\/p>\n

It marks a return for the veteran drivers, both 35, who lost their respective F1 seats at the end of last season.<\/p>\n

Cadillac will be the 11th team to join the F1 grid, and will be led by former Marussia Sporting Director Graeme Lowdon.<\/p>\n

“Signing two very experienced racers like Bottas and Checo is a bold signal of intent,” said Mr Lowdon.<\/p>\n

“They’ve seen it all and they know what it takes to succeed in Formula 1.<\/p>\n

“But more importantly, they understand what it means to help build a team.”\"Red<\/p>\n

Veterans return<\/p>\n

Perez is a six-time race winner and was runner-up to fellow Red Bull Racing teammate Max Verstappen in 2023.<\/p>\n

Together, Perez and Verstappen helped Red Bull win the F1 Constructors’ Championship in 2022 and 2023.<\/p>\n

For 2025, Red Bull replaced Perez with New Zealand driver Liam Lawson, who was then replaced by Yuki Tsunoda.<\/p>\n

Lawson’s F1 axing makes him a scapegoat for Red Bull’s problems<\/a><\/p>\n

Liam Lawson has suffered one of the more ruthless axings in Formula 1, and his replacement will need to overcome a temperamental car and a dysfunctional team or be at risk of a similar fate.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Perez said joining Cadillac is “an incredibly exciting new chapter in my career”.<\/p>\n

“I’m proud to be part of such an ambitious and meaningful project from the very beginning.”<\/p>\n

Bottas also brings a wealth of experience, claiming 10 race wins during his time with Mercedes.<\/p>\n

Most recently, Bottas raced for Sauber, before he was replaced by rookie Gabriel Bortoleto.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Bottas said Cadillac entering the F1 grid “isn’t just a racing project; it’s a long-term vision”.<\/p>\n

“This is an iconic brand with a big legacy in American motorsport, and to be a part of the story as it enters the world stage of F1 is incredibly special for me,” Bottas said.<\/p>\n

Cadillac will make its debut in Formula 1 at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne next year.<\/p>\n

Australia’s Oscar Piastri, who races for McLaren, is currently leading the driver’s championship with 284 points.<\/p>\n
