Chevy Chase<\/a> likes to punch down so much that he\u2019ll even take jabs at a kid.<\/p>\n

The cast of the 1983 movie \u201cNational Lampoon\u2019s Vacation\u201d gathered for a reunion at Fan Expo Chicago earlier this month, and Anthony Michael Hall<\/a> had a fun little story about how Chase\u2019s hostility wasn\u2019t just aimed at an animatronic moose<\/a> by the end of filming. <\/p>\n

In the beloved John Hughes comedy, Chase plays family patriarch Clark Griswold, who\u2019s utterly obsessed with two things: driving his family cross-country to a fictional theme park called Wally World and toying with the idea of cheating on his wife (Beverly D\u2019Angelo) with a blond bombshell (model Christie Brinkley) he keeps bumping into throughout their road trip. Hall and Dana Barron played Clark\u2019s kids, Rusty and Audrey, respectively.<\/p>\n

Hall, who was 14 years old during filming, prefaced his story at the expo by explaining that more than half a year after shooting wrapped, the cast had to come back and reshoot the ending because the original one tested poorly with audiences, per Entertainment Weekly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cPuberty kicked in for me,\u201d Hall recalled, per EW. \u201cI was a foot taller and like a different kid.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hall then added dryly, \u201cGuess who pointed the sh*t out right away and made me feel really good about it on set?\u201d<\/p>\n

Considering that Chase is known for his mean-spirited sense of humor and has a reputation for being difficult, it didn\u2019t take the audience long to figure out that the culprit was the same jerk<\/a> who got fired from the NBC sitcom \u201cCommunity\u201d after several clashes with the cast<\/a> and crew<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And because Chase is so casually cruel, Hall needed to jog his memory a bit with a specific example of how the \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d alum mocked him as a kid for going through puberty.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just remember the autograph you wrote me when we wrapped,\u201d Hall said. \u201cHe goes, \u2018To Anthony, you\u2019re a regular Robby Benson.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

At the time, Benson was considered a 1970s heartthrob, and Chase\u2019s remark was clearly sarcastic.<\/p>\n

But Chase wasn\u2019t quite done ridiculing the young Hall. The \u201cCaddyshack\u201d star also implied in the autograph that he hoped Hall would never be able to see how bad he looked at the time. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then it was also, \u2018If you\u2019re going blind, you\u2019re doing it right,\u2019\u201d Hall ended.<\/p>\n

Barron also remembered how brutal Chase was to Hall at the time, and mentioned another aspect of Hall\u2019s changing body that Chase felt the need to insult.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the way, you forgot the pimples,\u201d Barron reminded Hall a bit later in their conversation. \u201cRemember, Chevy mentioned all the pimples on your face.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Chase picked on Hall, the young actor clearly made a good impression on the film\u2019s writer and director, Hughes. Hughes later cast Hall in some of his biggest movies, including \u201cWeird Science,\u201d \u201cSixteen Candles\u201d and \u201cThe Breakfast Club.\u201d The trio of teen-targeted movies made Hall a bona fide member of the 1980s \u201cBrat Pack\u201d \u2014 and the fact that he briefly dated his co-star and fellow Brat Packer Molly Ringwald<\/a> only solidified his status.<\/p>\n

Despite Chase\u2019s behavior toward Hall in his youth, the \u201cDead Zone\u201d star doesn\u2019t seem to hold any hard feelings. <\/p>\n
