The Cronulla Sharks are reportedly<\/a> poised to reach an agreement with Blayke Brailey on a contract extension that will see him remain at the club until the end of 2030.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old has played 159-games for the club and will be rewarded for his efforts with the captaincy duties during their finals campaign after Cam McInnes ruptured his ACL a fortnight ago.<\/p>\n

The AAP<\/a> is reporting that Brailey and his management had entered negotiations with Cronulla hoping for a five-year deal.<\/p>\n

Instead, powerbrokers at the Sharks countered with a three-year offer, before a middle-ground was reached and a four-year contract had been verbally agreed upon.<\/p>\n

“It’s definitely getting close, which is great,” said Brailey.<\/p>\n

“We obviously wanted to move closer and close that gap. I know it definitely is close and when that day comes, I’m going to be super excited.<\/p>\n

“It’s no secret how I feel about this place. And I know the club knows how I feel about the future here and where I want to be.”<\/p>\n

Growing up as a junior footballer in the Shire, Brailey was one of the most highly touted local products to come through Cronulla’s pathways system.<\/p>\n

The hype around him was such that the club moved his older brother Jayden on to the Knights in 2019, making way for the young prodigy.<\/p>\n
