As classes begin on the Minot State campus this week, men\u2019s basketball coach Randall Herbst continues to introduce Beaver fans to the newest members of the Minot State men\u2019s basketball team.<\/p>\n
Ready to make an impact inside for Minot State, Coach Herbst is pleased to welcome 6-foot-7 forward Isaiah Alexander, a redshirt junior who comes to the Magic City after a stellar season at New Mexico Junior College.<\/p>\n
\u201cMinot\u2019s campus will be better all-around for having a man like Isaiah there,\u201d New Mexico Junior College head coach Luke Mackay said. \u201cOn the court, he will compete and play to win and lead on every possession. Off the court, he will represent the program and school with maturity and excitement to make everyone\u2019s experience a great one.\u201d<\/p>\n
In one season with Mackay\u2019s Thunderbirds, Alexander made an impact, earning All-WJCAC honors playing in 29 games and averaging 9.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest while adding 34 assists, 25 steals, and 7 blocked shots. Had turned in collegiate-high performances of 22 points and 11 rebounds last season for the Thunderbirds, who went 24-7 and advanced to the NJCAA Region V Tournament.<\/p>\n
Alexander also played alongside Minot State newcomer and junior guard Deuce Benjamin last season at NMJC.<\/p>\n
\u201cIsaiah has great length and great versatility \u2013 can play multiple positions on both ends of the floor,\u201d Minot State\u2019s Coach Herbst said. \u201cHe works extremely hard and has a tremendous work ethic.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe had success in one of the top junior college conferences in the country,\u201d Herbst added. \u201cBeaver Nation will love watching this young man compete!!!\u201d<\/p>\n
Prior to his time in New Mexico, Alexander spent two seasons at NCAA Division I Loyola Maryland, playing in 23 games as a true freshman for the Greyhounds before redshirting in 2023-24.<\/p>\n
A product of Archbishop Stepanic High School in White Plains, New York, he helped the Crusaders win the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) AA title in 2021-22 and was an All-CHSAA performer as a junior and senior in high school.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe in the vision and culture of the coaches,\u201d Alexander said of Minot State, adding, \u201cI\u2019m excited to come out to Minot; compete at a high level; help us win games, all while contributing to the program\u2019s continued growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alexander and the rest of the Minot State men\u2019s basketball team open the season on the road at the NSIC\/GAC Crossover, taking on Southeastern Oklahoma State and East Central (Okla.) on November 14 and 15 in Durant, Oklahoma.<\/p>\n
The Beavers make their home debut at the MSU Dome on Wednesday, November 19, hosting Bismarck State College at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
