I genuinely enjoy getting into that cage and on the mat and just fighting. I feel like if I got the chance to fight, whether I got the gold or not, I would have been happy. Getting it by default kind of makes me feel like I cheated.<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?text=I%20really%20wish%20I%20could%20have%20fought%20in%20Abu%20Dhabi%20because%20it%27s%20not%20about%20medals%20for%20me.%20I%20genuinely%20enjoy%20getting%20into%20that%20cage%20and%20on%20the%20mat%20and%20just%20fighting.%20I%20feel%20like%20if%20I%20got%20the%20chance%20to%20fight%2C%20whether%20I%20got%20the%20gold%20or%20not%2C%20I%20would%20have%20been%20happy.%20Getting%20it%20by%20default%20kind%20of%20makes%20me%20feel%20like%20I%20cheated.&amp;via=IOL&amp;original_referer=\" data-width=\"550\" data-height=\"420\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>  <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"blockquote--author\">&#8211; Abigail Deneys<\/p>\n<p>Deneys admitted she wasn&#8217;t fully proud of winning by default; she would&#8217;ve enjoyed being in the ring and showing off her skills. And to think Deneys admitted to not enjoying MMA at first&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Having joined the gym a year ago, under the mentorship and training of her coaches\u00a0Greg Thomas and Amanda Lino from Bushido Gym in Amanzimtoti, Deneys has her eyes set on leaving a mark in the world of MMA.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many teenagers can relate to Abigail&#8217;s story. She was bullied and decided\u00a0to learn how to stand up for herself. She started her MMA journey on 14 August 2024 and was just two weeks into her training when she competed in her first boxing competition, where she won gold.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8220;My coach always told me that I&#8217;m gonna be a champion and that I have a natural talent for MMA. Abby will be a bit modest about it, but it actually got quite bad at school. She was picked on a lot because she is bit on the chubby side. And as a mother, I never wanted to tell my daughter that she was not the correct weight or that she needs to go on a diet. It is also something I struggled with as a person.
