Full-back Tex Hoy has made 31 appearances for Castleford Tigers, scoring 12 tries.<\/p>\n
Castleford Tigers director of rugby Chris Chester has dismissed any doubts over Tex Hoy\u2019s future, insisting the Australian full-back will remain at the club beyond the current campaign despite the impending arrival of new signing Blake Taaffe.<\/p>\n
Taaffe, 26, will join the Tigers from Canterbury Bulldogs on a three-year deal from 2026<\/a>, having played most of his NRL career at full-back with 44 senior appearances to date.<\/p>\n The eye-catching signing raised some questions over Hoy\u2019s future at Castleford, though Chester insists there is a place for both players in Ryan Carr\u2019s squad next season.<\/p>\n Hoy, 25, has also overcome a calf issue to play against Leigh Leopards on Thursday.<\/p>\n \u201cTex is contracted, and he\u2019s a player for us, when he plays, we generally play well,\u201d Chester says.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a very influential player for us. He\u2019s back this week, which I\u2019m over the moon about.<\/p>\n \u201cHe makes a big difference for us, and is in our plans for 2026. Like I said, he\u2019s contracted, and we\u2019ve got a really good spine for 2026.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the coach [Ryan Carr] is going to have a few headaches, which, I don\u2019t have too many of them at the minute.\u201d<\/p>\n Chester expressed his delight at securing Taaffe, having previously looked at him while with Leigh Leopards. He made his NRL debut with South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2021 in a 46-0 win over Brisbane Broncos.<\/p>\n Taaffe has predominately featured at full-back across his senior career, but is also capable of playing in the halves, alongside a single appearance in the centres for Canterbury Bulldogs earlier this year against the Dolphins.<\/p>\n \u201cBlake is a player that I looked at when I was at Leigh,\u201d Chester revealed.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a good, athletic full-back with plenty of speed to burn. He\u2019s just as comfortable in the halves as he is at full-back, and I think he\u2019s played with Tex Hoy before as well.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s something we lack here, a bit of speed and quick off the mark.
