A Vancouver Canucks forward is hoping to prove everyone wrong and make the team’s opening night roster after spending most of the 2024-25 season in the AHL.

The Vancouver Canucks don’t have a ton of spots available on their opening night roster this year, which could lead to some interesting battles when training camp gets underway starting on September 17th.Essentially, there could be anywhere from five to seven players competiing for just two spots in the team’s bottom-six forward group and among them is Swedish forward Nils Aman, who saw some time in the NHL last season.

As Aman enters a contract year, he’s hoping to show to the team’s management and coaching staff that he’s ready for a full-time role in the National Hockey League.

Nils Aman pushing for opening night roster spot, speaks about future with Vancouver Canucks

With just a few weeks to go until training camp commences, Nils Aman sat down for an interview with Swedish media outlet HockeySverige where he spoke about his goals heading into the 2025-26 season and his future with the Vancouver Canucks organization.

Aman said to Ronnie Rönnkvist of HockeySverige that he is hoping to impress in training camp in order to land a spot on the Canucks’ opening night roster in early October, with his goal being to stay in the NHL full-time.

After spending the previous two seasons primarily in the NHL with the Canucks, appearing in 68 games in 2022-23 and 43 in 2023-24, Aman spent most of last year in Abbotsford and due to an injury, didn’t get a chance to help them in their run to the Calder Cup.

“I am, as you say, 25 years old and it is clear that I now want to become an established NHL player. To stay there, which is the big goal.” Aman said.

The Avesta, Sweden native was asked about his future with the club given that he’s set to become a restricted free agent at season’s end and while he said he hasn’t talked much about it with Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin, he has no intention of wanting to play for another organization.

“Not much. What he said is that I’m going to fight and then we’ll see what happens.” Aman said.

He added, “No, not really. I’ve just been thinking about doing my best all the time and then seeing what happens.”

Aman, 25, is certainly going to have a tough time making Vancouver’s opening night roster, especially with the club’s four centers for the start of the season all but confirmed, barring any injuries – Elias Pettersson, Filip Chytil, Aatu Raty & Teddy Blueger.

If Aman is unable to make the opening night roster, then he’ll need to be placed on the National Hockey League’s waiver wire and hopefully, clear in order to be assigned to Abbotsford and remain in the Vancouver Canucks organization.
