MURRAY — The defending champion of the Kentucky 2A Championships Sectional 1 Girls Soccer Tournament looked rough, at times, Tuesday night but still had more than enough firepower to return to the title match.
Murray High ousted Trigg County, 6-0, in the semifinals at the Jim Nix Soccer Complex in Murray to reach the title round for the second time in its two years of competing in the event. The Lady Tigers (4-0-1) will meet crosstown rival Calloway County in Thursday’s championship match for the second straight year.
Like most other teams playing in the tournament on Tuesday, Murray High struggled wth finding the range. However, it was able to find the net more than enough times for the win over Trigg (4-2).
Murray High led, 3-0. at halftime after scoring all of its goals in the final 23 minutes with Bria Stiff scoring twice, the first time on a penalty kick. Carrrigan Tucker had the other goal of the half on a rebound of a Kendyll English shot that struck the crossbar.
The Lady Tigers scored thrice in about a minute during the 27th minute of the second half on English’s header (Tucker feed), Hannah Elmore’s shot (Flora Falwell pass) and Bethany Bilodeau’s shot off off a Stiff pass.
