The provincial government has announced additional support for the many people affected by the destruction caused by the fire in Conception Bay North.
While officials are still sorting through the number of primary residences affected versus summer homes, and those who have insurance versus those who don’t, a variety of supports are being offered to residents and business owners.
Premier John Hogan there is additional support for those who were evacuated and have since returned to their home communities, and for those who may not have a home to go back to.

He says an additional $500 in emergency financial assistance will be provided to those who had to evacuate for more than two weeks.
The money is automatic for those who are already registered with the Canadian Red Cross. Those who have not yet registered are encouraged to do so.
Minister Jamie Korab, who leads a special emergency cabinet committee, says temporary housing support is also being provided for people who do not have insurance and who have either lost or cannot return to their primary home. Those families will be provided with $1,000 per household per month for those staying with family and friends for the time being.
More money is being provided to those who have to rent a place to live.

“If you need to seek temporary rental accommodations, we are providing $1,500 per household, per month, to assist with these costs.” Korab says Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporration will assist household in finding accommodations at licensed hospitality establishments, like hotels, if they are unable to secure private or rental options. Eligible households must register and confirm their information by contacting 1-855-724-3391.
A one-time Evacuation Business Stipend is being offered to eligible businesses, $1,500 for those with two to nine employees, and $2,500 for those with 10 to 99 employees.
Wage subsidies are also being provided to employers who have workers who live in the affected region. Up to 42 weeks of wage subsidy will be provided for eligible employers, an increase from the previous 28 weeks.
The Work Supports Program allocation is also being doubled from $1,000 to $2,000 to help replace work tools, equipment and other associated work necessities.
The province says it is working to find other funding opportunities.
