Break and Enter in Mount Pearl Leads to High Speed Chase and Arrest in Downtown St. John's

A 30-year-old man is facing a slew of charges after a high speed chase which started in Mount Pearl and eventually came to an end in downtown St. John’s.

It all started shortly after midnight after a truck had backed into the Needs Convenience on Barbour Drive causing extensive damage to the building.

The suspect vehicle, a 2009 Ford F-350 truck, fled the scene and was then spotted by officers in the area of Dunns Road.

The driver hit the gas and then began the chase, which was closely monitored by a swarm of police in the interest of public safety.

On two occasions, the truck would swerve into oncoming traffic attempting to ram into an RNC cruiser. Officers tried the spike belt, but the truck was able to swerve past and keep on going.

Eventually, the truck began to have mechanical issues and ended up coming to a stop on Brazil Street, but the driver wasn’t willing to give up just yet.

The 30-year-old took off on foot, but was nabbed by police in short order.

He now faces the following charges:

– Break and enter
– Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
– Flight from police
– Resisting arrest
– Assaulting a police officer
– Refusal of the breathalyzer demand
– Assault with a weapon X 1
– Operating a vehicle without insurance
– Operating a unregistered vehicle
– Operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license

More charges are expected as the investigation continues.
