WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The boys took center stage on the local pitch Wednesday night.
In NAC Boys ‘ Soccer, it was the John Jeffers Memorial Semifinal as Massena hosted Potsdam.
The Sandstoners’ Eddie Baker made an early save.
Owen Hughes missed an opportunity to put Potsdam on the board, as his shot went just wide.
Massena’s Makoa Rogers teed up a corner kick, but in the scrum, Baker snared the loose ball. The game is still knotted at 0-0.
In the 26th minute, Massena got on the scoreboard first when Jack Tyo tipped the ball past Baker and into the corner of the net. Score: 1-0 Raiders.
After a handball, Massena’s Nick Derouchie booted a penalty kick for the game’s only other goal. Massena holds off Potsdam 2-0.
In the other semifinal, it was Madrid-Waddington versus Parishville-Hopkinton.
In the 13th minute, the Panthers’ Joe Guiney pulled the ball free and lifted his shot over the keeper. 1-0 Parishville-Hopkinton.
Eleven minutes later, Jude TenEyck weaved through the defense and punched in the Panthers’ second goal. 2-0 at the half.
The Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard when Dean Hayes cut past the defender and drilled a low shot to the corner. It’s 2-1.
Ryan Murray broke in on goal and scored unassisted to put the Panthers back up by two.
Murray then slipped an inside pass to TenEyck, who buried the shot. 4-1 Parishville.
Murray set up Charles Clark-Vallance for the final goal. Parishville-Hopkinton defeated Madrid-Waddington 5-1.
In Philadelphia, a boys non-league contest as Indian River hosted Lansing.
In the 2nd half, the score was 1-0 Lansing when Gage Jensen-Hedrick came up with the loose ball and dented the back of the net: 2-0 Lansing.
With 1:01 left in the game, the Wolves got on the board when Mason Rowley scored into an empty net, cutting the Lansing lead to 2-1.
But that would be all the scoring as Lansing beats Indian River 2-1.
