The famed boxer and former politician met with the chief executive, who also happens to be his former rival in the Presidential polls three years ago.

On Thursday, August 28, Filipino boxing legend and People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao paid a courtesy call on President Marcos at the Malacañan Palace in Manila.

Pacquiao brought with him the World Boxing Council’s (WBC) belt he received from his comeback fight against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios last July in Las Vegas, USA and also gifted Marcos a pair of signed boxing gloves.

Meanwhile, after the meeting, Pacman shared that PBBM has also expressed his “all-out” support for the upcoming ‘Thrilla in Manila’ event in October.

It will be a week-long celebration commemorating the 50th anniversary of the historic boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, which took place on October 1, 1975, at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila.

“Napakalaking tulong nito at salamat sa suporta ng ating Pangulo. Napakalaking tulong ng ating Pangulo sa pakikipagtulungan ng mga ahensya ng ating gobyerno,” said Pacquiao.

He also promised to deliver in order to make the commemoration, which aims to promote Filipino pride and talent in the sport of boxing, a success.

“Natuwa naman si Presidente. All-out support naman siya. Maraming salamat,” Pacquiao added.

The boxing legend also confirmed that Marcos has accepted the invitation to grace the event, and told, “Manonood siya. Interesadong-interesado siya sa concept na ‘yun.”
