Warning: This post contains spoilers for season 2 of My Life with the Walter Boys.
Alex has his eye on more than just Jackie in My Life with the Walter Boys season 2, but what does Ashby Gentry think about that?
The 26-year-old actor plays the younger of the two Walter brothers, both of whom caught Jackie’s (Nikki Rodriguez) eye in season 1, and after she fled to New York City for the summer following a clandestine kiss with Cole (Noah LaLonde), things between her and Alex are on the rocks.
Alex also has a newfound hobby this season: saddle bronc riding.
The dangerous sport not only introduces him to a whole new rancher world, it also brings him closer to Blake, the pretty 18-year-old his parents hired to train him.
She also, of course, acts as the perfect person to rile Jackie up, amid an onslaught of new female interest in Alex thanks to his summer glow-up.
“Natalie is great,” Gentry tells PEOPLE of the actress who plays his trainer-slash-love interest in season 2, Natalie Sharp. “Natalie, the girl who plays Blake, is so awesome. She’s such a great actress. She’s so beautiful. She’s so much fun to work with.”

“I also like Alex-Blake ’cause she’s taller than me, and I’m like, let’s give Alex a tall girlfriend!” he quips of their height difference. “Alex does not discriminate. Alex loves all different races, taller than him — Alex does not care. I was very pro him getting a tall girlfriend.”
“I thought that was cool, because that’s not a thing you see,” Gentry continues, before he jokes that Alex is “on his Tom Holland a little bit” in season 2, referring to the height difference between the Spider-Man star and his fiancée, Zendaya.
Still, he’ll admit that he did think twice about the age gap between Alex and his trainer.
“That’s definitely a question mark,” the actor says of the dynamic between his 16-year-old character and the 18-year-old trainer.

“Yeah, the age thing was — I was like, ‘Hmm, I don’t know how this is going to go over,'” he admits.
He’s a bit more defensive, though, when it comes to how anti-Jackie Blake seems to be. “Is she wrong, though?” he asks, referring to Blake’s insistence that Jackie is a distraction for Alex, who is risking his life when he’s riding. “I don’t know.”
Blake aside, what there’s no denying is how much Alex cares about Jackie.
“I think you can really see how much he really loves her in the second season, which I think is different than in the first,” Gentry says.
Whereas there was a “question of, is he doing this just to compete with his brother? Or is he actually into her?” in season 1, he says that concern is “answered in season 2 — I hope.”
“I think he genuinely loves her and he goes after her, and because there’s that void there [from losing her family], I don’t think she uses her discretion to the fullest extent, because as we said, she’s grieving.”
He continues of Alex this season, “I think he makes [Jackie] feel like she’s going to be taken care of, and when you lose everybody that’s close to you, that feeling is so attractive. So it totally makes sense.”
