Sabrina Carpenter knows her lyrics can get pretty much anyone to laugh.
In a clip from a forthcoming CBS Mornings interview shared on Thursday, Aug. 28, the pop star told Gayle King that even “pearl-clutchers” will find lyrics of hers that make them “chuckle.”
The TV host, 70, told Carpenter, 26, that she enjoyed her music because it was so “unapologetic” and noted that she thought “there are some people that would listen to the music and they’d be clutching their pearls”

“Correct,” the “Espresso” hitmaker replied.
At first, Carpenter said her music wasn’t for the “pearl clutchers.”

“The album is not for any pearl-clutchers,” she said, before pivoting: “No, but I also think that even pearl-clutchers can listen to an album like that in their own solitude and find something that makes them smirk and chuckle to themselves….”
King then noted how “sexual,” “powerful” and “vulnerable” her music could be.
“That’s the thing, is sometimes people hear the lyrics that are really bold or they go, ‘I don’t want to sing this in front of other people.’ It’s like it’s almost too … it’s TMI,” said Carpenter.
She continued: “But I think about being at a concert with, you know, however many young women I see in the front row that are screaming at the top of their lungs with their best friends. And you can go like, ‘Oh, we can all sigh of relief like, ‘This is just fun.’ And that’s all it has to be.”

Man’s Best Friend follows her 2024 LP Short n’ Sweet, released last August. The record featured hit singles “Espresso,” “Taste,” “Please Please Please” and “Bed Chem.”
