AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Longhorns stood toe-to-toe with No. 4 TCU before conceding a late goal in a 3-2 defeat at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday night.
In the 85th minute, Morgan Brown headed home her first tally of the season to vault the Horned Frogs (4-0) ahead.
Texas (1-3-1) nearly found an equalizer in the closing minutes after Audrey Bryant was able to evade the goalkeeper, but AJ Hennessey leaped through the air to redirect the attempt off target.
The Longhorns controlled play in the second half, generating a 13-7 advantage in shots over the final 45 minutes.
Texas had some heroics of its own, as defender Carly Montgomery delivered in the 55th minute.
Montgomery — who just entered the match moments earlier — rolled a left-footed shot through traffic, sending the 1,353 fans into a frenzy.
The junior’s third career tally leveled the match, 2-2, after TCU scored a pair of first-half tallies.
In the defeat, Amalia Villarreal also netted her team-leading third goal. Villarreal capitalized on a TCU handball, drilling a penalty kick at the 8:00 mark to push the Longhorns up, 1-0.
Up next, Texas welcomes the College of Charleston to Mike A. Myers Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
