German qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff reached the last 16 of the US Open by winning against American Frances Tiafoe, the No 17 seed, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Friday.
The 35-year-old German is in incredible shape as he has beaten Dane Holger Rune, the No 11 seed (7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5) and American Mackenzie McDonald (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-3) ahead of his victory.
Struff, ranked No 144, will face the winner of the match between Serb Novak Djokovic, the No 7 seed, and Englishman Cameron Norrie next.
