LAKE CITY — Dozens of cyclists made a stop in Lake City Friday as they continued their journey to Mackinaw City for the 54th Dick Allen Lansing to MACkinaw (DALMAC).

The annual bicycle tour began in East Lansing on Aug. 27, with three separate routes taking off this week. Two of the routes went through Missaukee County.

The five-day west route is 325 miles long and takes bicyclists through Vestaburg, McBain, Kalkaska and Petoskey. The route began on Wednesday, Aug. 27, and ends on Sunday, Aug. 31.

Bicyclists arrived in McBain on Thursday, Aug 28, and spent the night at Northern Michigan Christian School.

The four-day west route has two ways bicyclists can go about it. The traditional route is 322 miles long while those looking for a challenge can go on the 402 miles route.

The goal with this challenge route is to reach 100 miles every day.

Both options take bicyclists through Vestaburg, Lake City and East Jordan. The ride starts on Thursday, Aug. 28, and ends on Sunday, Aug. 31. Bicyclists arrived in Lake City on Friday and spent the night at the high school.

As a thank you to the schools, DALMAC organizers pay them for the meals and services provided to cyclists. The money can then by used by the schools to fund various programs.
