The life and works of Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery are being reimagined through the lens of contemporary book artists as the Kindred Spirits exhibition makes its way to Halton Hills

The Kindred Spirits book arts exhibition, currently on a cross-Canada tour, is making a stop at the Halton Hills Cultural Centre.
Kindred Spirits: The Lucy Maud Montgomery Legacy as Interpreted by Contemporary Book Artists is a touring book arts exhibition that responds to the work and life of Lucy Maud Montgomery. The pieces were created by members of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG) as a tribute to Montgomery’s enduring legacy on the 150th anniversary of her birth.
The exhibition will be at the Halton Hills Cultural Centre from Aug. 6 to Sept. 21, 2025, with an opening reception on Aug. 10, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The exhibit was conceived by Barbara Helander, a bookbinder and book artist from Caledon East.
Details about the exhibition:
37 meticulously crafted pieces by members of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild
Works selected by a panel of jurors: Don Taylor, bookbinder; Liz Menard, printmaker; and Kate Macdonald Butler, granddaughter of L.M. Montgomery
Each piece is a testament to the timeless impact of Montgomery’s work, celebrating her as a source of inspiration
With growing global interest in book arts, the exhibition highlights the vibrancy and innovation within the book arts community
The exhibition launched in Charlottetown, P.E.I., on June 21, 2024, and is touring across Canada until Dec. 2026
