Try naming something more frustrating than hearing these four words: The WiFi is down….

In the digital age, we all depend on reliable internet access. It’s crucial for work tasks during business hours, streaming Netflix during evening hours, and even required for turning off lights (if you’re an Alexa user).

However, despite living in our technology-driven era, there are moments when the WiFi fails to sustain a steady connection, reports the Mirror. If you’re fed up with unreliable connections and slow speeds, the issue might be caused entirely from your WiFi router’s location.

WiFi transmissions can be ‘obstructed’ when positioned beside dense materials including furniture and walls.

Alan, an expert at Increditools, said: “Placing a Wi-Fi router behind furniture or inside cabinets may seem like a convenient way to hide unsightly cables. But it can significantly hinder Wi-Fi performance.”

“Additionally, routers placed near metal objects or electrical wiring may experience signal reflection and attenuation, further worsening performance.”

Devices like your microwave or TV emit electromagnetic interference (EMI), which can ‘disrupt Wi-Fi signals and degrade their quality’.

If your router is located in a corner, you might want to reconsider its placement. WiFi routers work best when they’re centralized and elevated, radiating signals in all directions without interference.

Still dealing with slow internet?

Alan suggests using a WiFi extender or mesh systems to boost and broaden your Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home. “By strategically positioning your Wi-Fi router and minimizing interference, you can ensure optimal signal strength and coverage for all your devices, providing a seamless and reliable internet experience,” he advised.
