Readings has announced the shortlist for the 2025 Readings Young Adult Prize, for the best new contribution to Australian young adult literature.
This year’s six shortlisted books are:
Judges include chair Fiona Hardy (Readings Doncaster), Lucie Dess (Readings Marketing), Miranda La Fleur (Readings St Kilda) and Kate O’Mara (Readings Hawthorn).
The winner will be announced alongside the winner of the New Australian Fiction Prize and the Children’s Fiction Prize at Readings’ A Day in Carlton festival on Friday 14 November 2025. Each category winner will receive $5000.
The Gab Williams Prize for Young Adult Literature winner, judged from the shortlist by the Readings Teen Advisory Board, will also be announced and receive $1000 in prize money.
Last year’s Young Adult Prize winner was Gary Lonesborough for We Didn’t Think It Through (A&U Children’s).
