Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka face off Monday afternoon at 1:10 p.m. ET in the fourth round of the US Open, and their roles have decisively reversed since their last meeting in Queens.
Gauff’s first professional matchup with Osaka came at the 2019 US Open, when Gauff was a first-time participant at age 15 while Osaka was the reigning champion. The results were predictable. Osaka breezed past Gauff in straight sets, advancing to the fourth round.
However, just a few months later Gauff knocked off Osaka at the Australian Open, punching her ticket to the fourth round of a grand slam event for the first time in her young career. It was a sign of what was to come.
This time, Gauff has the target on her back. Now a two-time grand slam champion — including a US Open victory in 2023 — Gauff is the No. 3 seed in Flushing while Osaka is trying to climb her way back to prominence in the sport she once dominated.

Coco Gauff vs. Naomi Osaka live updates, results, highlights from 2025 US Open fourth round
Coco Gauff 2-3 Naomi Osaka: Osaka guesses right at 15-15 but mishits a forehand and nearly takes out a ballboy by the umpire’s chair. She then loses a baseline exchange, which might give Gauff a little confidence boost. That serve is still an issue, though, and it’s Osaka who looks like the better mover early on. At deuce, Osaka doesn’t do nearly enough after a poor drop shot from Gauff, and the American comes through.
Coco Gauff 1-3 Naomi Osaka: Gauff gets a first point against the serve, a positive approach forcing Osaka to go long off the forehand. But the glimmer of hope of an early break back is short-lived.
Coco Gauff 1-2 Naomi Osaka: Gauff responds in kind with a love service game. Now, can she make some inroads on the Osaka serve?
Coco Gauff 0-2 Naomi Osaka: A hold to love for Osaka. Strong start.

2:04 p.m. ET: And that match is over! What a win for Auger-Aliassime. Osaka and Gauff have been warming up and will be out on the Arthur Ashe court shortly.
1:44 p.m. ET: Auger-Aliassime is two sets and a break up against Rublev, so we could see Gauff and Osaka on court before too long.
