Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Emma Atkins has broken her silence on a dramatic death storyline that saw one character return from the dead.

Last month Mackenzie Boyd was seemingly killed off after the villainous John Sugden shot him with a crossbow, before hitting him with a rock.

However, Mack made a surprise return last week when it was revealed that John had been keeping him locked up in an underground bunker.

Meanwhile, Mack’s estranged wife Charity Dingle thinks her husband has gone to London following an argument about her surrogacy arrangement with granddaughter Sarah Sugden.

Speaking to New Magazine, Charity actor Atkins said she was always confident that Mack actor Lawrence Robb wouldn’t actually be killed off.

Asked how she feels about Mack’s return, Atkins said: “I had no doubt Mackenzie would be OK because he’s so good. Lawrence is incredible.”

She continued: “I knew it would be very exciting for the audience to wonder what his fate would be. They built a special set for the bunker. We were both excited. This storyline is proving to be my favourite.”

Meanwhile, Robb has also opened up about Mack’s exciting new storyline, saying there’s still a possibility that his character could be killed off.

“I’m glad the secret that Mack isn’t quite dead (yet) is over,” he quipped. “I have felt slightly deceitful over the last two weeks when people have asked me about his death.”

Teasing what’s to come in the storyline, the soap actor said: “Whilst I have enjoyed being somewhat of an enigma over that time, I’m really looking forward to seeing how the drama we shot is received on screen.”

Opening up about acting in scenes with Oliver Farnworth, who plays John, Robb said: “Both Ollie and I really enjoyed shooting it, so hopefully the jeopardy of Mack’s position will keep the audience gripped!”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
