FULL BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Men’s Soccer senior forward Rodrigo Mendes has been named the Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league today (Tuesday, Sept. 2).
Asheville went 1-1-0 last week, picking up a 3-1 win over Georgia State on Aug. 26 before falling to Queens 1-0 on Aug. 31.
Mendes’s breakout performance came against Georgia State, as he posted his first career hat trick in the match and the first for the Bulldogs since 2023. The win over Georgia State was the first for Asheville against the Panthers since 1997, and the first in the series at home since 1994.
This is Mendes’s first career Player of the Week honor.
The Vila do Conde, Portugal native is a computer science major.
The Bulldogs (2-1-0) return to action on Saturday (Sept. 6) hosting Bellarmine at Greenwood Field for the program’s annual NDMP match. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m., with live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
