WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – – The Ball State women’s golf team closed play in the Boilermaker Classic with its best round of the tournament Tuesday, shooting +5 (293) to place sixth overall among the 14-team field with a final score of +24 (888).

The effort at the 6,299-yard, 72-par Kampen-Cosler Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex helped the Cardinals top a pair of NCAA Regional teams from a year ago, in Western Kentucky (+40; 904) and Georgia Southern (+42; 906).

“This was a solid way to start the season,” head coach Cameron Andry said. “The golf course presented a fair but stout test, and the field featured nine teams which competed in NCAA regionals last season. For us to compete the way we did is something we can certainly build on moving forward!”

Ole Miss won the 2025 Boilermaker Classic at -2 (862), while Indiana (-1; 863), Kent State (+12; 876), Purdue (+14; 878) and Xavier (+15; 879) rounded out the top five. Ole Miss, Kent State, Purdue and Xavier were all NCAA regional team qualifiers last season, while Indiana sent individuals who played with senior Jasmine Driscoll at the NCAA Lexington Regional.

Ball State also picked up a head-to-head win over a current power conference program for the second straight season, topping Iowa (+29; 893). Prior to last season’s head-to-head win over Wisconsin at the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational (April 12-13, 2025), Ball State had not topped a power conference school since the 2013-14 campaign.

Tuesday’s final round saw a pair of Cardinals turn in even-par rounds, with senior Sarah Gallagher and sophomore Sophie Korthuijs each signing score cards of 72.

Gallagher’s round included Ball State’s first eagle of the season when she holed out from 80 yards on the par 5, 515-yard 10th, her fourth hole of the day. It was one of just seven eagles logged over the course of the tournament and helped her climb 14 spots up the final leaderboard into a tie for 35th at +10 (76-78-72=226). Gallager also carded two birdies in her round to finish the tournament with five.

Korthuijs got off to a hot start as well Tuesday, starting with two pars and three straight birdies. She finished the tournament with seven total birdies and tied for 26th overall at +8 (77-75-72=224). Korthuijs was 17th among the field in par 5 average, at 4.92 (-1), and 19th in par 3 average, at 3.08 (-1).

“With Sophie and Sarah both shooting 72 today we had four different players card rounds of even par this week,” Andry added. “That is a demonstration of the strength of our line up from top to bottom.”

Driscoll was Ball State’s top individual finisher, tying for 16th overall at +4 (72-75-73=220). Driscoll added two birdies and 13 pars to her tally over the final 18 holes, giving her five total birdies and 38 total pars. The par total tied as the second-most among the 81-golfer field.

Junior JJ Gregston turned in her third countable round of the tournament Tuesday, shooting a +4 (76), with one birdie and 12 pars. She finished tied for 28th overall at +9 (75-74-76=225), while ranking 18th among the field with her 35 total pars. She also finished the event with five birdies.

Rounding out Ball State’s squad was graduate student Sabrina Langerak who finished the day at +5 (77) and the tournament tied for 28th at +9 (76-72-77=225). The effort included a birdie on the par 4, 392-yard ninth to help her close the tournament with a team-high nine birdies. She also ranked second among the field in par 5 average at 4.58 (-5).

Overall, the Ball State women’s golf team ranked second among the 14-team field on the par 3s with a with 3.03 (+2) average. The Cardinals were also tied for third on the course’s par 5s at 5.00 (E).

Ball State’s golfers finished the 54-hole tournament with one eagle, 32 birdies and 172 pars, with the par total ranking third among the 14-team field.

“While we played great golf this week, we can still clean things up,” Andry added. “We need to play even sharper, especially on and around the greens, to continue to move in the right direction.”

Next up for the Ball State women’s golf team, the 2025 Brittany Kelly Classic Sept. 15-16 at the Players Club at Woodland Trails. Tee times are currently set for 9 a.m. each day with shotgun starts on the 72-par, 6,292-yard course.
