Southampton Pharmacy Doing Pilot Clinic

Kristen’s Pharmacy in Southampton is offering a one-day clinic for people without access to a local family physician or nurse practitioner.

It’s set to go September 16th and is designed to serve residents of Saugeen Shores who do not currently have a family doctor or nurse practitioner in the area.

A family physician will be on-site at Kristen’s Pharmacy to provide essential primary care services for patients without a regular provider.

Owner & Pharmacist Kristen Watt tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, “We know that people are going to places like the emergency department for this type of care so we want to kind of reduce the strain on the emergency departments. This isn’t for patients who have a physician or primary care office sin Saugeen Shores, because those patients should be able to access care through their family doctor’s office and if they’re having any trouble with that of course they can connect with us at the pharmacy and we can help them, but this is really for people who don’t have access to a family doctor or nurse practitioner in the area.”

Available services will include:

– Lab requisitions and interpretation of bloodwork
– Imaging requisitions
– Management of diabetes, hypertension, and osteoarthritis & other chronic illnesses
– Colonoscopy, echocardiogram or other referrals
– General primary care consultations tailored to patient needs

In addition, the clinic will be offering publicly funded vaccines for patients without a family physician or nurse
practitioner in Saugeen Shores. Vaccines available include school-age immunizations, MMR, and tetanus.
Important booking deadlines:

Vaccines: Must be booked online by September 8 so that doses can be ordered.

Physician appointments: Available online until September 16. Walk-in appointments may be accepted if availability remains.

Watt says, “Depending on how the day goes and the need in the community and the response and the work that happens after and before the fact, we’ll look to add additional clinic days in the future.”

Kristen’s Pharmacy is a fully locally owned pharmacy that has been serving the community since 2017.
