Patrick Bamford, the former Leeds United striker, has been approached by Celtic for a potential move to Parkhead. The Celtic board are under significant scrutiny after the transfer deadline passed on Monday night without any new strikers being signed. Adam Idah was surprisingly sold to Swansea City on deadline day for £7million, despite Brendan Rodgers’ insistence that the Irishman would not be leaving until a replacement had been secured.
Negotiations have been held with ex-Man City and Leicester forward Kelechi Iheanacho, with rumours suggesting a two-year contract is up for grabs, although the Scottish Premiership champions are facing competition from Turkey. A move for Anderlecht centre-forward Kasper Dolberg also failed to come to fruition on Monday. The Dane may instead return to his old club Ajax. Now, according to the Herald, Bamford, who recently left Elland Road, is on Celtic’s radar.
The 31-year-old parted ways with Leeds after an agreement was reached to terminate his seven-year contract. Bamford played a key role in leading the Yorkshire club to two Championship titles and is now seeking a new club following their return to the English Premier League under Daniel Farke.
However, any deal must be finalised by 11pm tonight for Bamford to be eligible for Celtic’s Europa League campaign. After missing out on Kasper Dolberg and David Fonana, Celtic need to act swiftly if they want to bolster their attacking options for the Europa League knockout stages.
