Four teenagers have been arrested and charged after a dangerous driving spree led to a crash that sent two police officers to hospital.

According to Waterloo regional police, officers responded to calls of a white Volkswagen hatchback driving dangerously on Highway 8 on Aug. 30. The driver of the Volkswagen reportedly kept another driver from exiting the highway and then followed them throughout the region.

The Volkswagen was seen running a red light and then driving the wrong way up the King Street East on-ramp, and police intervened to pull the vehicle over. They fled from the officers before colliding head-on with another police cruiser, eventually colliding with two more police vehicles.

Two officers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen, an 18-year-old man, along with two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy, were arrested at the scene of the collision.

All four were charged with criminal harassment and disguise with intent, and the driver was charged with multiple driving-related offenses, including a charge for fleeing from police. They’re being held for a bail hearing.

According to police, they believe more vehicles may have been struck in the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call their non-emergency line at (519)653-7700.
