Angel Reese will not be a free agent until 2028 but she is already threatening to leave the Chicago Sky. The 23-year-old power forward needs more from the organization.

It sounds more like a demand than a request.

Reese, a second-year player in the WNBA, is not willing to play for a team that is going nowhere. She apparently thinks very little of her current teammates.

The Chicago Sky was terrible, again.

To be completely fair to Reese, she has played a lot better in 2025 than she did as a rookie in 2024. Her numbers are up across the board. She is averaging 14.6 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

And yet, the Chicago Sky is still one of the worst teams in the league at 9-30.

It went 1-9 without Reese on the floor due to an injury. It went 8-21 when Reese was playing.

As things currently stand, the Sky will either receive the first or second overall pick in next year’s draft.

Angel Reese demands better.

Although Reese’s current contract will likely keep her in Chicago through 2027, she is fully prepared to leave if things do not get better in each of the next two seasons. That starts with the roster.

Her current teammates are not up to her standards.

“I’m not settling for the same s— we did this year,” she told the Chicago Tribune. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.”

Reese said she is willing to do whatever it takes to upgrade the talent around her. In doing so, she directly insulted the players who are currently on the team. They are simply not good enough.

“I’m willing and wanting to play with the best,” she said. “And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year.”

If the Chicago Sky does not add better players, invest more money into its facilities and/or improve its coaching staff, its star player is going to leave. The current situation will not cut it.

“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want,” Reese added. “I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me. But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”

Yikes. I understand the frustration. Losing sucks!

With that being said, Reese essentially threw everybody she knows under the bus. That can’t feel good…
