It appeared to be headed for a fifth set after Auger-Aliassime fell down 4-1 in the fourth set, but he stormed back to force a tiebreak that eventually gave him the match by a 7-4 score.

It is the second Grand Slam semi-final of the 25-year-old Montreal native’s career. In 2021, he also faced off against Daniil Medvedev in the final four at the US Open, where he was the eventual champion.

“It feels amazing. Four years ago, it feels like more. It was a tough couple of years,” he said in an on-court interview after the match. “It was just a lot of nerves today, during the whole match… [but] it’s not over. There’s still some tennis to play.

Auger-Aliassime was seeded No. 25 in the tournament, while de Minaur was seeded eighth.

Auger-Aliassime’s run in this tournament had already seen a vast increase in his live ranking, pushing him up 14 spots from world No. 27 to at least No. 13.

Auger-Aliassime will take on the winner of Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti in a semi-final match on Friday. Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are facing off in the other semi-final after wins on Tuesday.

In the women’s singles tournament, Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula are the two players who have so far qualified for a semi-final, with Karolína Muchová, Naomi Osaka, Amanda Anisimova, and Iga Świątek left in the draw.

In the women’s doubles bracket, Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe face off against Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini later today in a semi-final of their own.
