Deep River and District Health (DRDH) has officially opened its new Primary Care Building, marking a major step in expanding its health campus and transforming primary care delivery in the region.
The grand opening took place August 28, 2025, with patients, physicians, staff, and community partners joining to celebrate. The event highlighted the collaboration that brought the project to life and the lasting benefits it will bring to local health care.
“This facility represents years of teamwork between health partners, family physicians, and our community,” said Janna Hotson, DRDH President and CEO. “It provides a modern, purpose-built space for comprehensive, team-based primary and preventative care under one roof.”
The single-storey, 11,000-square-foot building, located on the DRDH campus, now houses the North Renfrew Family Health Team, DRDH’s outpatient and ambulatory services, and the family medicine practices of Dr. Ceponis and Dr. McVey. Together, they create a hub for coordinated primary and preventative care.
Patients will benefit from streamlined access to providers, less travel between services, and care in a welcoming, accessible setting. Health care teams will also gain a space designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and growth to meet evolving community needs.
The project was supported by funding from the Government of Ontario. “We are grateful for the province’s investment,” said David Cox, Chair of the DRDH Board. “This facility strengthens care today and ensures long-term sustainability for tomorrow.”
Local MPP Billy Denault (Renfrew–Nipissing–Pembroke) praised the development, calling it “a meaningful investment in the health and wellness of Deep River and surrounding communities.”
The Primary Care Building will begin seeing patients this week, ushering in a new chapter of person-centred, team-based care for the community.
