Domnhall Gleeson, keep that American accent coach on speed-dial. Peacock has renewed The Paper for season 2 before season 1 has even dropped. Gleeson and co-star Sabrina Impacciatore broke the news on the Today show. Impacciatore screamed “Yay! I’m so happy!” when Craig Melvin made the big announcement. It’s nice to see a TV show about print media doing better than print media itself.
The Paper is a spinoff of the American Office. The premise of the show is that the same documentary film crew has now turned its lens on a struggling newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. A second season means more chances for The Office characters to cross over. The show already features Oscar Martinez (Oscar Nuñez), who has fled Scranton and is now chagrined to see cameras once again surveilling his every move.
With news of the show’s second season, perhaps this will give Impacciatore the nudge she needs to actually visit the Buckeye State. “I’ve never been to Ohio, so I just looked at pictures, so many pictures, and I hope one day I can go in person,” she said on the red carpet of The Paper’s Los Angeles premiere. “I can’t wait to go there. Ohio, wait for me. I’m coming.”
