Last night (Wednesday September 3), fans flocked to the Copper Box Arena in London for the fourth and final night of Gorillaz’s ‘House Of Kong’ exhibition shows celebrating the 25th anniversary of Damon Albarn‘s animated band. Where previous shows saw the band perform some of their most iconic albums in full, last night’s showcase was something entirely special for those in attendance.
Fans weren’t allowed to access their mobile phones during the performance, and were made to secure them in pouches. Following the end of the gig, fans took to social media to discuss the show, revealing that Gorillaz had debuted a new album in its entirety, and featured a ton of special guests.
Are you fucking serious the Gorillaz mystery show is definitely a new album and I can’t be there to see it? pic.twitter.com/ZywkKfFa3s

As for the album itself, fans have described it as “absolutely breathtaking”, with one fan writing: “The soundscape of this album is like nothing I’ve ever heard from this band… Almost perfect album. Gorillaz really outdid themselves with this one. 10/10”
Just listened to the new Gorillaz album
The soundscape of this album is like nothing I’ve ever heard from this band, it’s absolutely breathtaking. There is a track that had me sobbing 10 seconds in, Almost perfect album. Gorillaz really outdid themselves with this one.

Another wrote that the record is “heavy on Indian tunes”, while others on Reddit said it also included other South Asian, Middle Eastern and world influences – this shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans though, as Albarn previously said in July that the “new Gorillaz record is in four languages”.
A leaked image from the show also sees artwork of fictional character Murdoc now in the form of a Hindu deity with blue skin, a long beard and prayer beads hanging from his neck. See more reactions below.
We went to the @gorillaz mystery show. It was a cell phone-free concert because they were playing from their new album. The album was heavy on Indian tunes. The orchestra was quite large: four strings, four backing vocalists, three Indian instruments, etc. pic.twitter.com/57mqu2nfWW

The forthcoming album has yet to receive a release date or a title reveal, but fans are expecting it to arrive as soon as this weekend.
The Albarn-led band kicked off the first of four limited-capacity live shows at the Copper Box Arena in London last week (August 29) to mark their 25th anniversary. Throughout the first three dates celebrating the milestone, Gorillaz have played their self-titled debut, its follow-up ‘Demon Days’ and ‘Plastic Beach’ in full at the East London venue.
The third show – which contained the ‘Plastic Beach’ play-through – also saw Gorillaz surprise audiences with ‘The Fall’ tracks ‘Phoner To Arizona’ and ‘California And The Slipping Of The Sun’ live for the first time ever during the encore.
The four shows were part of the band’s ‘House Of Kong’ exhibition at the Copper Box. It ran from August 8 until yesterday (September 3). The exhibition gallery offered fans a look behind the curtain of the virtual band’s headquarters, and provided insights into the journey they have had since sharing their 2000 debut single ‘Tomorrow Comes Today’, up until present day.
