It looks like there might be an official name for the Valve’s new Steam VR headset, currently known as “Deckard”.
According to a trademark filing, along with some data mining, Steam’s next VR headset will known as the “Steam Frame”. Per the trademark filing, the Steam Frame is “intended to cover the categories of computer hardware; computer networking hardware; computer peripherals; computer hardware and computer software for the reproduction, processing, and streaming of audio, video, data, text, and multimedia content.”
Along with the trademark filing, dataminer Lifeismana found various strings in the latest SteamVR update that specifically mention the “Steam Frame” device.
More Than Just A Device Name
In addition to the Steam Frame name, prominent Valve insider Brad Lynch had more details on what Valve’s plans are.
Lynch says that Valve is planning on rebranding SteamVR “overlays” to “Frames”. He added that the major selling point of the device is expected to be “spatial gaming”.
Insider Gaming has reached out to Valve for comment on the trademark filing and what’s been found in the files. Should a response be received, it will be added to this article.
