Actor-anchor Rajesh Keshav, who was hospitalised in Kochi following a cardiac arrest after a movie programme in August, has now been weaned off ventilator support, informed hospital sources. A medical board comprising a multidisciplinary team reviewed the 47-year-old actor’s treatment progress. “His blood pressure is stable, and he is breathing on his own. Over the past 48 hours, he has also shown minor but sustained responses to painful stimuli,” said a release.
He is still closely monitored by cardiology, critical care, neurology, gastroenterology and ophthalmology teams. A few days ago, he underwent tracheostomy, the surgical procedure that creates an opening in the front of the neck into the windpipe. It is performed to give an airway when a patient requires long-term mechanical ventilation, long-term. Repeat EEG (electroencephalogram that records brain activity) had also shown minor neurological improvement, according to the hospital.Â
Rajesh was hospitalised on August 24 after he collapsed in a Kochi hotel and suffered a cardiac arrest. It had also resulted in a moderate hypoxic injury, which happens when tissues suffer damage due to inadequate oxygen supply for body cells.Â
