How It Happened

First Half
Both squads put a shot on net within the opening five minutes, but neither goalkeeper budged and kept the game scoreless. The Salukis then put up shots in the 20th and 21st minutes, but Edwardsville’s keeper kept SIU off the board still.

The Salukis finally broke through at the 38:11 mark when Latenser put one into the top right of the net and gave SIU a 1-0 lead. This lead held for the final seven mintues of the first half, sending the teams to the locker rooms with SIU holding a 1-0 advantage.

Second Half
It did not take long into the second half for the Cougars to find the equalizer, as they tied the game 1-1 just six mintues into the back half. However, the Salukis quickly retook the lead in the 59th minute when Knorr scored off an assist from Soto.

Katamoto then extended the SIU lead five minutes later to make it 3-1, Salukis. After 12 minutes of back-and-forth action, the Cougars pulled back within one at 75:30, but SIU was able to hold on for the remaining 15 minutes, thanks partially to a final save from Murray, securing the 3-2 win for SIU.
