FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 5, 2025) – The Northern Arizona women’s soccer team continues a stretch of away matches as it travels to UC Irvine this week to take on the Anteaters in non-conference action.
NAU’s match against the Anteaters starts at 1 p.m. MST on Sunday and can be followed on live stats.
The Lumberjacks stand at 2-1-2 entering this week, following an unbeaten trip to Hawai’i where they took a 4-2 win over the Rainbow Wahine and a 1-1 draw with South Dakota State. The results allowed NAU to claim First Place of the University of Hawai’i Outrigger Tournament.
Against Hawai’i, the Lumberjacks saw its highest-scoring combined match in a first half this season, with five goals in the opening 20 minutes. After falling behind 1-0 and 2-1, the ‘Jacks took a 3-2 lead into halftime thanks to a brace from Avery Ott and score from Micala Boex. The defense would hold Hawaii in the second frame, behind a career-high nine saves from Reece Reichwald, until Ott netted her third goal for her first career hat trick and fifth in program history to seal the win for NAU.
Following her stellar performance against Hawai’i, Ott was named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week as well as to TopDrawerSoccer’s National Team of the Week on Sep. 2.
The match against South Dakota State told a different story, as both teams blanked in the first 45 for a 0-0 halftime score. The ‘Jacks defense shined, allowed just one shot on goal in the half. A Boex goal in the 56th minute gave NAU a slim advantage, but the Jackrabbits were able to equalize in the 77th minute for the draw.
The Lumberjacks face UC Irvine for the first time. The Anteaters were voted third in the Big West Preseason Poll and come into this match at 2-1-3. Fifth-year defender Mihaela Perez was named to Preseason All-Conference Team. UC Irvine most recently took a 0-0 draw with San Francisco for its second consecutive shutout, as the Anteaters are currently outscoring its opponents 9-3 through six matches.
