LARAMIE – Meghan Vogt spent nearly two years dealing with injuries in the middle of her Cowgirl golf career.
Â
Now Wyoming’s super senior is ready to make the most of her extra year of ability by leading a talented young roster during the 2025-26 season.
Â
Vogt, who finished tied for 32nd in the Mountain West Championships after fully returning to the lineup last season, played in six events over the offseason to prepare for the fall schedule. She finished 11th in the women’s individual field at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.
Â
“After my whole journey of the college experience and the injury and everything, I’ve been grateful this year to still be here,” Vogt said. “I think the team is going to be really good, so I’m excited.”
Â
UW head coach Josey Stender views Vogt almost like an extra assistant, which will be invaluable with a junior, two sophomores and a freshman joining her in the starting lineup when the Cowgirls tee off the season Monday at the Utah Valley Wolverine Invitational.
Â
“The adversity that she has faced over her career, a lot of student-athletes or people in general wouldn’t overcome it,” Stender said. “I think it’s really defined who she is as a leader, as a student, as a golfer, encompassing all those things. It’s been really neat to be part of that journey with her. …
Â
“Meghan has been a great extension of me, and I’m going to rely on that throughout the season.”
Â
Montana transfer Elle Higgins, who was recruited by Stender coming out of Valor Christian High School in the Denver metro area, adds her own wealth of tournament experience after playing well for the Grizzlies the past two seasons.
Â
“We’re lucky that she had a change of heart,” Stender said. “She brings a ton of competitive experience. She was (Montana’s) leading scorer the last few years, their highest finisher as a freshman in the Big Sky, so that depth that she is bringing to us is going to be extremely beneficial and she’s fitting in very well with the team environment. I’m very excited to get on the course with her.”
Â
Kira Reisner flashed her shot-making ability last season as a redshirt freshman. Now she will be joined in the lineup by her sister, true freshman Kiley Reisner, as the sibling from Northridge, Calif., reunite at UW.
Â
“Kiley is different from Kira and we talk a lot about how each person in the program has a different journey but we’re all working towards the same end goal,” Stender said. “Kylie’s fire and inherent competitiveness is a great addition to the program.”
Â
Lucia Morelli, who finished tied with Vogt for 32nd at the MW championships, and Emerson Purcell, who will be playing as an individual, are looking to build off strong freshmen campaigns.
Â
“Emerson is more confident and better with her competitiveness. She has the skill set,” Stender said. “Lucia set the standard pretty high, so the key for us is it’s a new year and she’s got to be consistent and present.”
Â
UW will compete against host Utah Valley, Idaho State, Lamar, Southern Utah, Cal Bakersfield, Cal Northridge, Utah Tech, Weber State University and Westminster College on Monday and Tuesday at the TalonsCove Golf Club in Saratoga Springs, Utah.
“Keeping our team culture, the traditions that we value and that we hold, in order for that to be passed on after I’m gone,” Vogt said of leading the team on and off the course. “I’m using what the girls I’ve learned from in the past taught me, which is to hold people accountable and have create chemistry between everybody.”
