Wireless chargers have had a flaw that made them less popular than they deserved to be. This new update in wireless charging, first implemented in UGREEN’s Magflow chargers, just made it worth another look.
Wireless chargers are not new. They’ve been around for over a decade but have not been as popular as most people presumed they would be, and that is because of the simple fact that they just aren’t as fast as charging with a high-speed cable. Personally, I’ve owned a lot of different wireless charging stands, but only one has been constantly in use—the one I placed on my nightstand. This is because it only made sense to use the wireless charger when I’m about to sleep (hopefully for a significant amount of time), as it will not be interrupted by me taking the phone to use it for whatever reason. However, with the update of Qi 2.2, this can potentially change.
What Is Qi 2.2?
Qi is a certification standard for wireless charging technology that has evolved with technology over time. The current standard, Qi 2.0, which is widely available in almost any wireless charging product of recent years, has a capped charging capacity of 15 W and compatibility with Apple MagSafe mounting features. Qi 2.2 is a technical upgrade that can now charge up to 25 W wirelessly on compatible devices and comes with better magnetic alignment to ensure uninterrupted fast charging. The earliest wireless chargers to pack the feature with a Qi 2.2 certification are UGREEN’s Magflow Qi 2.2 power bank and 2-in-1 charging stand.
UGREEN Magflow Qi2.2
The UGREEN Magflow 10,000 mAh Qi 2.2 power bank comes in a compact, card-shaped form with the magnetic charging pad on one side and an additional port on one edge. It comes with a built-in woven flat USB-C cable capable of 30 W charging, which retracts into a hand strap when the tip latches onto the compartment. The USB-C port beside it is also capable of 30 W charging when paired with a compatible cable. This model, however, does not have any USB-A ports, which may be a downside for those who still use USB-A cables on low-power devices.
On another side, it has a small 1-inch screen that displays the battery percentage of the power bank when in use. When only used for wireless charging, it can charge up to 25 W if the device being charged is also capable of such input. For iPhones, this currently only includes the iPhone 16 series and most likely any future models.
The UGREEN Magflow 2-in-1 magnetic wireless charging stand offers the same 25 W Qi 2.2 wireless charging pad on an adjustable stand, as well as a secondary pad that is compatible with AirPods and other wireless earbuds that are capable of wireless charging. In addition, it has another 5 W USB-C output port that is best used for smartwatch chargers or other low-power devices. It makes use of a 35 W USB-C input port at the back, which powers all three charging interfaces at once.
With wireless charging and MagSafe compatibility getting more and more capable and cross-compatible, charging mobile devices and accessories is becoming more convenient. Hopefully, in the future we’ll see higher-capacity power banks and chargers that also have wireless charging options so they can be all-in-one chargers not just for mobile phones but possibly even camera batteries.
