Organizers of the 9th Earl Dick Memorial Golf Tournament are celebrating yet another successful event after more than $5,600 was raised Thursday at Oakview Golf and Country Club near Gretna. Eight-one golfers participated in this year’s fundraiser.
“It’s amazing,” said Jim Dick, organizer and son of the late Earl Dick. “When we look back at at the support we’ve received from the community, the golf community and others, it just marvels me every time that we’re always sold out.”
Two “favourite” charities
“We raised over $5,600, and that’ll bring us up to over $35,000 we’ve raised in the years we’ve held the tournament,” explained Dick. “Basically the money goes into the (Altona) Community Foundation, and the Community Foundation then doles out the money to organizations within our community. With that being said, also part of the money through the Community Foundation goes to Oakview Golf and Country Club so they can do certain different projects. They will ask the Community Foundation for a grant for certain things.”
Dick noted those two organizations were his father’s favourite.
“He loved our community, and he really loved the golf course, so it can’t go to more fitting organizations.”
He also extended a thank you the community and all of the people who come out and support the tournament.
As for 2026’s 10th anniversary event?
“No big plans at the moment,” said Dick with a smile. “I guess we’ll have to wait and see how that goes.”
