Donegal’s Matthew McCole narrowly defeated at World Amateur Boxing Championships

Donegal boxer Matthew McCole suffered a narrow split decision loss at the World Amateur Boxing Championships this afternoon.

He was defeated by Ronald Chavez Jnr of the Phillipines in a tight 3-2 split decision loss in Liverpool.

McCole was aiming to progress through to the Round of 16 in the bout.

The Dungloe native qualified for the World Championships via winning the National 70kg title earlier this year.
