Global health leaders weigh in on U.S. vaccines, research

WHO stresses trust in vaccine programs and CDC stability as Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. faces backlash over health policy.

United States Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. plans to announce a link between over-the-counter Tylenol taken by pregnant women and autism, according to several news reports.

RFK Jr. and the department of Health and Human services are expected to release a report that could draw the link between the pain medication and autism, according to the Wall Street Journal. It will also suggest a medicine derived from folate can be used to treat symptoms of developmental disorders in some people.

Tylenol, whose active ingredient is acetaminophen, is a widely used pain reliever, including the use in pregnant women. There is no established scientific consensus that the drug causes autism.

Where is Tylenol made?

The Tylenol brand name is owned by McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a subsidiary of Kenvue. The drug is manufactured in several facilities across the world, including two in Pennsylvania ― the major production site in the Fort Washington section of Upper Dublin, Montgomery County, and another in Lancaster. Las Piedras, Puerto Rico and Guelph, Onatario are also home to significant manufacturing sites.

Note that although the final Tylenol products are manufactured within these facilities, raw ingredients can be sourced from other countries, such as China and Israel.

While Tylenol was traditionally manufactured by the well-known Johnson & Johnson, its consumer health division which included Tylenol was spun off to the new company – Kenvue – in 2023.

Kenvue is now the owner and manufacturer of the Tylenol brand.

The 100-plus acre Fort Washington facility on Camp Hill Road employs about 10 percent of Kenvue’s reported 20,000 employees.
