Shillong, Sep 6: A ‘Good Samaritan’ cum counselling centre was inaugurated today at Khlieh Ïewduh to provide support and guidance to youth struggling with addiction.
The centre, supported by the Social Welfare Department, was opened by Minister in charge Paul Lyngdoh.
In his speech, Lyngdoh emphasised the centre’s importance, citing Ïewduh severe drug abuse issues. He assured that experienced counsellors and well-wishers will collaborate with the department to help youth overcome substance abuse.
He said that the government will cover the centre’s rent, ensuring its sustainability, appointed caretakers will manage the facility, while counsellors will receive incentive benefits for their services.
The Minister said that the government plans to set up more counselling centres based on demand, increasing the initiative’s reach and impact.
