Liverpool head coach Gareth Taylor speaking to Sky Sports: “Obviously, the result is not what we wanted. It was a fantastic start for us, I felt like we got a grip of the game, got control of the game to a high level. The supporters were really great at that moment. We should’ve maximised a little bit more, hit the post two or three times at 1-0, also at 1-1 and I think it was four or five minutes either side of the half that was our undoing, and I think there’s circumstances around that.

“Messaging to the players has been really positive but we have to stick to our brief and our process that we work to and we came off the gas a little bit in that four minute period either side of half-time.

“There’s work to do for sure but I think it’s exciting. It’s a wonderful football club. There’s fantastic people here. We’re aware of the job we’ve taken on and where it sits and I think that’s really exciting.”
