INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women’s tennis team opened its fall season by hosting the Crimson Hawk “Brad Hanes” Invitational at the Maple Street Courts. The teams included were Frostburg State, Salem, Mercyhurst, Delaware State and the Crimson Hawks. Overall, the Hawks won 12 singles matches, while also winning four doubles matches.
 
IUP started day one of the competitions by winning six of the first nine matches, including Charliz Tabili winning her first collegiate match as a Crimson Hawk. In fact, Tabili won her first two matches as a Crimson Hawk.  Senior Annemiek Sterk won her first two matches of the year, as well as Hannah Beitat and Isabelle Oikawa Torres. Oikawa Torres went 3-0 in the tournament.
 
In doubles play, Sterk and Beitat defeated a Delaware State pair in their first double match of the fall. The pair defeated another State pair in doubles play to go 2-0. To end day two, the pairing of Tabili and Maria Moskaltsova took their first doubles match together, and Lea Von Kozierowski and Oikawa Torres also took their first doubles match.
 
The Hawks will compete again on Saturday, Sept. 13, when they travel to Bucknell to take part in the Bison Tournament.
