If the Vancouver Canucks have any season reminiscent of what transpired in 2024-25, it is expected that they will lose record setting power forward and fan favorite Kiefer Sherwood wither at the trade deadline, or in free-agency.

When the Vancouver Canucks signed free agent forward Kiefer Sherwood on Canada Day last year, many fans and members of the media were curious what he would bring to the organization.

After setting an NHL record last season with 462 hits, the power forward who earns just $1.5 million a season has greatly outplayed his deal, and has now hired a new agent coming into a contract year in order to get every last penny he is deserved.

Vancouver Canucks at-risk of losing fan favorite power forward Kiefer Sherwood,

Cleary, he has earned every bit of recognition, praise, and most importantly a pay raise, but the Vancouver Canucks are going to have a big decision to make two times this year.

At 31-years-old, Sherwood is not a young buck anymore, and with a new agent and looking at the comparable in the market, it will be likely he demands a new contract in the ballpark of $3.5-$4 million a season, which might be a little out of GM Patrik Allvin’s price range.

If the team and Sherwood can’t come to a deal at a lower price, in the realm of $2.75 million a season for 3-4 years, you can guarantee that there will be rumblings of the Canucks looking to move him at the trade deadline in order to not lose him for nothing.

There are pros and cons for re-signing Sherwood. He was one of the most exciting Canucks last season, showcasing some scoring touch and of course, the fact that he hit everything in sight.

However, he will be 31 years old in the latter stages of this season, and he could be in line for a contract that pays him over $4 million per season.

Either way, the team is at risk to losing him, it just depends on if Allvin wants to come up that high to give him a contract he can find with another team on the free agent market.
