Police searching for second vehicle believed to be involved in early Sunday morning incident

UPDATE, 11:20 a.m., Sept. 8: A 55-year-old man from Newmarket was identified as the cyclist who died following a crash on Highway 11 Sunday morning in East Gwillimbury. 

A driver remained on the scene, while police are searching for a second vehicle they believe was involved in the collision. No description has been released.

A further update is expected soon.

UPDATE: Highway 11 has been re-opened in both directions.

York Regional Police continue to seek witnesses of the collision, as well as dashcam footage that may have captured the cyclist prior to the collision. Call 1-866-876-5423, ext 7704.

A cyclist is dead after being struck by a vehicle early this morning in East Gwillimbury.

The collision occurred at about 12:50 a.m. on Highway 11 at Morning Sideroad, just north of Newmarket, York Regional Police said on X.

Highway 11 (Yonge Street) is closed between Morning Sideroad and Dogwood Boulevard for the investigation.

Police are requesting that anyone with information call 1-876-5423, ext. 7704.
